Primary schools in Galway are among the most overcrowded in the country according to teachers organisation the INTO

Almost a fifth – 4000 pupils – are in “supersize” classes of thirty or more children.

Ninety per cent of primary pupils in the county are in classes greater than the EU average at 20 or more

63 per cent of pupils are in classes of 20 or more while 18 per cent are in classes under 20.

The General Secretary of the INTO, Sheila Nunan described the findings as a wake-up call for the Minister.
