One-day workshop with a photography master

Photographer Nutan will give a one-day outdoor workshop in Kinvara this Sunday, May 15, with participants assembling in the village’s Strawberry Hedgehog Café at 9am.

Jacques ‘Nutan’ Piraprez,  one of the West’s best-known photographers, has led an eclectic life from his early years in Belgium, mingling with Surrealist and Dadaist painters and writers. He first landed in Ireland (courtesy of a Dutch trawler) in 1969 on a photography assignment, and by the early 70s had relocated here.

Nutan’s work covers studies of Ireland and its people as well as carrying out assignments for international publications, among them Paris Match, Time, Stern, and National Geographic. He has also been involved in photographing many musical projects, including CD covers for world-famous musicians.

Alongside that, he has lectured in photography at many of Ireland’s art schools, run workshops for professional photographers and published 14 books of his own work.

Sunday’s workshop will be a rare opportunity for anyone wishing to develop their photographic technique and vision.

Hosted by the Kinvara Area Visual Artists group, KAVA, events will kick off with a cup of coffee at the Strawberry Hedgehog Café, where participants can enrol and make plans for the day. The cost of the workshop is €30 per person, (payable on the day) with a generous share going towards KAVA funds.

It is expected that the workshop will run to 6pm or thereabouts. A carpool arrangement will allow the group to explore several locations in the Kinvara/Burren area, and there will be a break for lunch (not provided) at a suitable time and place.

The workshop is intended to be useful to camera users with different levels of experience and ability, but is probably not suitable for complete beginners.

Nutan will cover aspects of light, composition, content, vantage point and depth of field. If human subjects are required, they will be found within the group

People are advised to bring outdoor shoes and clothing, whatever camera they like to use, (fully charged!) and maybe a notebook.
