ONE CHARGE DROPPED AGAINST GALWAY SEX ASSAULT ACCUSED

A Galway man on trial for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl has had one of the charges against him dropped.

Judge Patrick McCartan has withdrawn a charge alleging the man indecently touched the girl in her mother’s bedroom on April 15, 2006 and said he will direct the jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to return a NOT guilty verdict on it.

The 42-year-old man now faces the remaining charge sexual assualt charge that he kissed the girl as she lay under the bed covers in her own bedroom on the same evening.

He denies her allegation.
