On Wings of song with Tara Erraught

Irish mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught, now an international star, will join forces with pianist Dearbhla Collins to will perform On wings of song next Wednesday, November 4, at the Aula Maxima in NUI Galway at 8.00pm.

This event is Tara’s first appearance in a Music for Galway programme and she will perform songs by Dvorak, Brahms, Wolf, Copland, Mahler and Britten, as well as several Irish numbers.

Dundalk-born Tara is a graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, and came to international prominence when she stepped in at five days’ notice, learning the role of Romeo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi at the Bayerische Staatsoper in 2011. She won worldwide acclaim for her performance. Since then, she has sung a world premiere, made her US opera debut, and has successfully toured North America twice.

Tara has been a member of the opera studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich since 2008 and performs extensively there as well as in Ireland and internationally.

She will be accompanied by the accomplished and prize-winning solo pianist Dearbhla Collins, who is currently Artistic Administrator to the prestigious Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition in Dublin and a patron of the Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year Competition.

Dearbhla is a member of the Board of the National Concert Hall, Dublin, marrying this with being a piano teacher and vocal coach at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In recent years she has specialised in the song repertoire and appears regularly in concert with Irish and international singers.

She often teams up with her brother Finghin for four-hand recitals and two-piano performances.

Since 2006, Dearbhla has travelled regularly to China, where she has given performances with bass, John Molloy, mezzo-soprano, Aylish Kerrigan and soprano, Lynda Lee, including a recital of Irish music in the prestigious National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Recent engagements include concerts with Tara Erraught and fellow mezzo-soprano Rachel Kelly and as well as soprano, Anna Devin.
