On the Road Again for festival of storytelling
The Moth & Butterfly Festival, a digital feast of storytelling and improvisation, will take place from this Friday to Sunday, February 4-6. The theme of the event is On the Road Again.
The Moth & Butterfly team have been running monthly events in Galway for the last decade, as well as collaborating with festivals and events globally. This is their second festival and features tellers and performers from around the world.
This Friday, at 1pm in Stories For Children – Big and Small, Catherine Brophy, Máirín Mhic Lochlainn and Órla Mc Govern will present three short storytelling sets online. These will include a young girl’s brilliant adventures, some sea monsters, and a moral tale, with some of the stories being bilingual.
The Story Trails at 3pm are outdoor experiences where people can visit two locations – the Claddagh and the top of Knockma – and listen to online stories from Órla McGovern and Midie Corcoran via a location app on their smartphones.
These stories, which feature original music by composer and conductor Sinéad Hayes, can also be experienced from anywhere in the world, via the website.
The Things We Do For Love at 4pm is the result of an Open Call. Festival artists and audience members were invited to submit a short true audio story about love – good and bad – and the chosen anonymous pieces will feature in an audio walk around Galway City. Again, this is also available on the website.
At 7.30pm Moth & Butterfly – On the Road Again is an extended version of the monthly storytelling and improvisation night, featuring the regular crew and special guests. This hybrid session will include live local tellers in Ballyeamon Barn, in the Glens of Antrim, joined digitally by tellers and performers worldwide. Participants include Rebecca Mann, Jackie Roantree, Órla Mc Govern, Jonathan Pitts, Niceol Blue, Colin Urwin, Maria Gillen, Masako Carey, Catherine Brophy, Máirín Mhic Lochlann and Liz Weir.
