Residents of a city suburb affected by the lead contamination are staging a protest at City hall today over the lack of progress in replacing their water pipes.

Residents in 251 homes in the Old Mervue area are calling on the city council to provide them with water filters so they can use the water from taps in their homes instead of bottled water.

They’ve been using bottled water for the past 7 weeks since the discovery of the lead contamination.

They’re frustrated that City council plans to replace the lead pipes could take between 2 and 5 years.

City councillor Terry O’Flaherty is behind the protest, she’s hoping the councillors will support her motion for filters to be installed in Old Mervue homes
