Old Claddagh comes to life

The Town Hall Studio is playing host this week to a delightful play from a relatively new Galway company Dragonfly Theatre.

Married to the Sea, written by Shona McCarthy evokes memories of the Claddagh fishing community in the early 20th century, when Claddagh was still a place apart from Galway City and when fishing was the main means of making a living.

McCarthy cites Declan O’ Rourke’s song Marrying the Sea as one of her inspirations for this play and a beautiful version of it is included.
