OIREACHTAS MEMBERS TO MEET MINISTER ON CITY ASYLUM CENTRE
Date Published: 23-Oct-2012
Oireachtas members will take part in a private meeting on the impending closure of city asylum centre Lisbrook House at Government buildings this evening.
The process to transfer the centre’s 250 residents is already well underway with the majority of single men being moved to other asylum centres in Galway.
Galway West TDs including Brian Walsh and Sean Kyne are expected to attend the meeting with Justice Minister Alan Shatter at 5pm.
Galway Senator Trevor O’ Clochartaigh, who was strongly against the decision to close the centre, is abroad and will instead be represented by Waterford Senator David Cullinane.
The meeting is seen as a last ditch effort to stop the centre from closure next week, however the transfer of residents is already in motion.
