This four-bed detached house on Fr Griffin Road in Galway sold for €570,000.

In their end-of-year report, O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers disclosed the sale of more than 600 properties in 2019.

The company said it was one of their biggest years of sales to date, with new homes sales rising considerably in demand over the past 12 months and enormous demand expected to continue with the news of the Help to Buy scheme being extended.

More than 350 properties went to auction in 2019 – 80% of those properties being sold.

A number of properties situated in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow went under the hammer, with large volumes in Galway, Mayo, Clare, Limerick, Sligo and Donegal.

It is understood that the company is planning a nationwide property auction which will be held in Dublin.

Auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan said: “We have seen a significant increase in the auction department this year. We look forward to an even bigger year of sales in 2020 as we launch our upcoming auction campaign and grow our private treaty and new homes listings. 2019 boasted exceptional value and variety in the room, the atmosphere is always electric and buyers and sellers alike were always delighted with the outcome.”

O’Donnellan & Joyce introduced their new online bidding platform in 2019 and after it made its debut in the September auction, it attracted interest from international investors picking up rental properties and others acquiring farm lands and new family homes.

Senior Sales Negotiator Mary Fahy said: “The beauty of this system is that we can interact with buyers from anywhere in the world – from those thousands of miles away to those who purchase property from the comfort of their own homes here in Ireland.

“Bidding on property has never been easier with phone bidding and proxy bidding proving as popular as ever with huge numbers of people from across the globe tuning in to the live auction stream with some auctions attracting over 15,000 views,” said Ms Fahy.
