O’Cuiv calls for polling day reform for island communities
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway West TD Eamon O’Cuiv has called on the government to amend the law to allow Aran Islanders to take to the polls on the same day as the rest of the country.
Currently, the islanders must cast their vote the day before the rest of the country.
However, Fianna Fail TD Eamon O Cuiv says this makes it difficult for students who may be studying or working in the mainland to return home to cast their vote.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Deputy O’Cuiv says equality in voting is a democratic right which everybody should be entitled to.
