Supporters of the Occupy movement are to mark the one year anniversary of the camp’s eviction from Eyre Square tomorrow.

The commemoration event gets underway at noon at the camp’s former base on Eyre Square.

Occupy Galway had maintained a presence in Eyre Square from October of 2011 until their eventual eviction last May.

Activists say the camp was intended to be a space for political discussion and expression.

When questioned on any plans to reoccupy the square, former Galway Occupier Chris Duignan says the event is intended as a commemoration only but people may opt to spend the night.
