OCCUPY GALWAY TO SIT TIGHT DESPITE OCCUPY CORK VOLUNTARILY DISMANTLING
Date Published: 12-Mar-2012
Occupy Galway say their legal term will serve an injunction on the city council if they attempt to dismantle the Eyre Square camp.
The group has come under renewed pressure to leave as the Occupy Cork group today removed their camp voluntarily.
Last week the occupy Dame street camp in Dublin was taken down by Gardai and city officials.
However,Occupy Galway is determined to keep the camp going, which now includes a large wooden shed and 10 tents at the site.
Up to fifty people are involved in the encampment which will be 150 days at Eyre Square tomorrow, and looks likely to be there for St.Patricks day.
The city council has already issued a letter to the group formally requesting the group to leave, saying the occupation poses health and safety risks.
Spokesperson for the camp, Liam Heffernan says they have a constitutional right to be in Eyre Square.
