Cross examination of consultant obstetrician Dr Katherine Astbury continues at day three of the inquest into the death at UHG of Savita Halappanavar

Dr Astbury has strongly refuted Praveen Halappanavar’s claim that she referred to Ireland being ‘a catholic country’ following his inquiries regarding a request for termination.

She has admitted she was inhibited by Irish abortion laws in her treatment of Savita

Dr Astbury has also accepted in her evidence that there were system failures at University Hospital Galway.
