There’s been widespread opposition to the proposed construction of a biogas and anaerobic digestion plant in Tuam.

Up to eleven submissions have been lodged with An Bord Pleanala on the plans after it was given the go-ahead by county planners last month. (July)

The plant at the former sugar factory site in Airglooney is proposed to generate energy by recycling beet, silage and other green waste.

County Planners gave the anaerobic digestion plant the go ahead last month with 15 conditions attached.

These referred to health and safety, public health and traffic management.

An Bord Pleanala must now decide the fate of the digester plant for Tuam and is expected to make a decision by the end of the year.
