Objection to second longterm halting site on Headford road

Galway bay fm newsroom – The Headford road business alliance has lodged an objection to the county councils decision to approve a second longterm halting site at Carrowbrowne.

In July, the county council granted permission for the long term continuous use of the transient halting site.

There are around 13 families, including over 30 children at the site, which holds 15 serviced halting bays.

The Headford road business alliance states that the group has no issue with the permanent halting site at Carrowbrowne which is a long established facility.

However, the group says the further provision of long term halting sites in the Curraghline/Headford road area is not in the interests of proper planning and sustainable development or the social welfare and safety of the travelling community.

The group also says the general location is not suitable for any further traveller accomodation facilities because of the heavily trafficked high speed national road, and existing industrial and commercial uses in the vicinity.

The group is also requesting an oral hearing in relation to its appeal.
