O’Malley to stage solo exhibition
Date Published: 10-Aug-2012
A CANADIAN-BORN artist now living in Ireland will stage her first solo exhibition in Galway at the Norman Villa Gallery in Salthill from September 13 to 29.
Jane O’Malley sometimes describes herself as a “still life painter” but as this her first solo exhibition in Galway shows her range is far wider than that. In this accomplished show we have landscapes, portraiture, etchings and yes wonderful still lifes.
She was born in Canada but has lived and worked in many parts of the world. St Ives in Cornwall, Clare Island in Mayo, The Behamas, St Lucia, Switzerland, Lanzarote and Physicianstown Co Kilkenny where she now lives and works.
This exhibition shows her mastery of line and colour resulting in beautiful vibrant paintings which appear to dance with an internal energy. Of special note are a series of paintings and etchings based on Clare Island off the Mayo coast, the Island was very important to the O’Malley’s and one can see the depth of the connection in these works.
The exhibition opens on Thursday September 13 at 6 pm and runs until Saturday September 29.
