O’hUIGUINN CLAIMS NEW DEVELOPMENT WILL ENHANCE WESTSIDE
Date Published: 30-Dec-2011
The proposed new retail development on the Seamus Quirke and Rahoon road will enhance the Westside of the city.
That’s according to businessman and former Mayor of Galway Micheal O’hUiginn who this morning lodged the planning application for the former T.O’Higgins manufacturing site.
The development includes the demolition of the existing buildings, an elevated retail unit over a surface car park with a cafe, licenced area and restaurant.
It also includes a public plaza, service yard, new road access, landscaping and signage.
A 35 million euro Tesco supermarket and filling station is planned for the site.
The gross floor space of the proposed works is over 10 thousand 500 square metres.
The proposed development has been shrouded in controversy over residents objections to it and a zoning legal challenge.
Residents have concerns over the scale of the development and the threat to road safety as a result of increased traffic
However, Micheal O’hUiginn told Galway Bay fm news that if it gets the go ahead , it will give a much needed lift to the Westside.
