Galway West Deputy Eamon O’Cuiv has called on the Minister for Agriculture to take decisive steps to protect the reputation of Ireland’s food sector at home and abroad.

His comments in the Dail this evening come after the Food Safety Authority found horsemeat in burgers made and sold in Ireland.

The Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Agriculture says while he welcomes the swift action of the supermarkets in taking the products off the shelves, a thorough investigation is now needed.

The Agriculture Minister says a lack of respect for proper food labeling regulations may have lead to the controversy.

Simon Coveney told the Dail that investigations are underway to find the source of the product which contained the horse DNA.
