Ó Cuív doesn’t rule out run for President

Former Government Minister Eamon Ó Cuív is not ruling out the possibility of him standing for the Presidency – although he insists that he is not actively looking for a nomination.

As the campaign for the Arus intensifies with independent candidates seeking the support of local authorities, Deputy Ó Cuív’s name is increasingly being associated with the post.

Even party leader Micheal Martin said that he would make an ideal candidate during an interview late last week while he also has the support of the Fianna Fail organisation in Galway West.

Deputy Ó Cuív said that if he was asked by the Fianna Fail parliamentary party, he would have to give the matter serious consideration. “It is a very serious constitutional job”, he added.
