Nutan adds paintings to the mix for latest exhibition, ‘My World’
My World, an exhibition of photographs and paintings by Kinvara-based artist Nutan, will open next week at the Courthouse, Kinvara, hosted by the local arts group, KAVA.
The exhibition will include some of the beautiful photographs taken from Nutan’s book L’Éternel Irlandais (Paris 2003, edited by Francine Deroudille).
Also on show will be a series of paintings that will appear in his forthcoming book. This new body of work began in the Tyrone Guthrie centre, Monaghan, last November when Nutan went back to his brushes to create, in ink and watercolours, The Adventures of Brown Cat.
“Brown Cat is in love with nature, water, clouds, birds, fishes and flies,” his creator explains.
“Like me, he spends most of his time in a wee caravan on the shores of the Corrib, drifting in his boat, lost in clouds of Mayflies, elusive speckled brown trouts and darting seagulls,” he continues. “I soon discovered, among islands and hills of the Corrib and seashores of the Burren, that I am Brown Cat.”
Nutan, who studied painting and photography in his native Belgium, first came to Ireland in 1969. He stayed her for two months on that first visit, exploring the country and taking photographs.
Impressed by the light and stillness of the rural life here, he returned some years later and stayed. He has been based here ever since.
