Number of strays reaches unprecedented level at Connemara dog shelter
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Connemara based dog rescue MADRA has made an urgent call for financial support due to a period of unprecedented pressure on its services.
The Camus based shelter has noticed a sharp increase in the number of dogs and pups being abandoned throughout the county.
It says it is no longer in a position to take in any more dogs due to lack of space and funds.
It’s annual running costs are in excess of 150 thousand euro with a 3000 euro allocation from the Department of the Environment.
Edel Comerford of MADRA says in one morning, 19 extra dogs were taken in by the rescue – she’s making an urgent plea for donations.
