NUIGALWAY PLANS MAJOR EXPANSION OF CITY CAMPUS
Date Published: 20-Apr-2009
NUI Galway is planning a major expansion of its campus in the city.
The college hopes to build a 4-storey Humanities and Social Sciences Research Building directly next to the James Hardiman Library at it’s central campus on Lower Newcastle Road in the city.
A 3-storey glazed atrium will connect the proposed building with the James Hardiman library and will become the new entrance to the library.
The university is hoping to succeed with a second application to build a 4-storey Translational Research facility and Clinicial Research facility next to its Clinical Science Institute at the U-H-G grounds on Lower Newcastle Road.
NUIG is also hoping to build a third new 4-storey Science Research building at its Northern Campus in Corrib Village on Upper Newcastle Road.
As well as the three new buildings, the University is hoping to decommission the existing car park next to the Clinical Science Building at UHG and build a new one on the existing roadway to the west of the CS Building.
