NUIG researchers examine social exclusion among the elderly

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Researchers at NUI Galway have published a new report on the lives of older people.

The report was funded by the Centre for Ageing Research and Development in Ireland and attempted to measure social exclusion among older people.

It found that one in six older people in Ireland had little or no contact with family and friends.

The research also showed that older people contribute greatly to society through civic activities including voting and volunteering.
