NUIG PROFESSOR HEADS PUBLIC FINANCES WATCHDOG

A professor from NUIGalway is to head up a new watchdog on public finances.

Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan has announced that Professor John McHale will chair the new Fiscal Advisory Council.

It’s understood Professor McHale won’t be paid for the role.

Under the EU-IMF Bailout deal, Ireland is obliged to set up the independent watchdog to oversee the management of public finances.
