NUIG PRESIDENT COMMENDS RESEARCH FOCUS FOLLOWING RISE IN WORLD RANKINGS TABLE
Date Published: 11-Sep-2012
NUI Galway’s high standards in research and teaching means it is now a serious contender on a worldwide stage despite cuts to third-level funding in Ireland.
That’s according to the University’s President Jim Browne, after the Newcastle campus bucked the national trend to secure a rise in the 2012 QS World University Rankings.
The results of the international study show an 11 place rise for the college meaning it now stands at 287th in a list of the world’s top 700 universities.
This shows a slight recovery on its 66 place drop to 298 from last year.
President Jim Browne says the good news should be a confidence boost for the Western region.
