NUIG pays tribute to honorary graduate Nelson Mandela
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The President of NUIGalway has added his voice to the tributes pouring in for the late Nelson Mandela, who passed away last night.
Former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela received a honorary degree from NUIG in 2003.
College President, Dr. Jim Browne says the day of Mandela’s conferring at the Newcastle campus is “amongst the most memorable occasions in the history of” the university.
He adds that NUIG is proud to count Nelson Mandela as alumni and is proud to forever be associated with the Nobel Laureate.
During the conferring at NUIG ten years ago, Mr. Mandela said he was proud to be honoured by the college.
