NUIG Mystics have moved to within two games of adding the South Conference Shield to the Division 1 Cup after claiming back-to-back wins in their double-header weekend to leave them on a 10-1 record with just four games remaining.

They saw off Marble City Hawks with ease on Saturday, before clinching a crunch win on Sunday over a Portlaoise Panthers side that are their closest rivals for the conference title.

There was also a win for NUIG Maree in the Men’s Super League, with Charlie Crowley’s side extending their unbeaten home run to seven league and cup games with a 10-point dismissal of Templeogue; but Moycullen produced a disappointing display in going down at home to Belfast Star on Sunday.

Titans trip to Ulster University on Saturday was postponed, and they take on Tolka Rovers in the Ballinfoile Castlegar Neighbourhood Centre on Saturday (6pm).

Templeogue    77

Charlie Crowley’s side made it a league and cup double over Templeogue on Saturday, running out deserving 10-point winners over the visitors in a game which they could have won by more, only for taking the foot off the pedal somewhat in the final quarter.

Templeogue lost their hold on the cup when they visited the NUIG Sports Centre back in October, and Maree inflicted more misery on a side featuring Irish internationals Lorcan Murphy and Neil Randolph to move to third in the South Conference table, and seventh in the combined league table, although that’s not clear from the shambolic nature of the Basketball Ireland website which is missing a number of games and results.
