NUIG IDENTIFIED SOURCE OF CARRAROE WATER POLLUTION

It could be several days before the water supply in Carraroe is safe to drink again following an oil spill from an NUI Galway premises.

Emergency water supplies are being supplied to around 1500 homes on the Carraroe public water supply and the Camus group water scheme.

Users of the Carraroe public water supply and the Camus Screeb group water scheme are being warned not to use tap water for drinking, washing or food preparation.

In a statement the university said that during the recent severe weather, a fuel line became damaged at the university’s premises in Carraroe.
