NUIG GETS FUNDING FOR AGRI FOOD AND FOREST RESEARCH

NUI Galway is to share government funding of 2.2 million euro for agri-food and forest research.

The university will share one point four million euro of the fund with Teagasc, UCC, UCD and ITT.

This research will explore Irish meat processing streams for recovery of high value protein based ingredients for food and non food uses.

NUIG will share point eight million with UCD, UL and Teagasc for research on critical biomass removal on Irish forest soils.

The research funding comes from a national allocation of thirty two milllion euro announced by Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney for projects being undertaken on a collaborative basis.
