NUIG forms alliance with Connacht Rugby

Galway Bay fm newsroom – NUI Galway is to form a new alliance with Connacht Rugby.

The partnership seeks to develop the sporting, academic, research and educational links between the two.

NUI Galway says the partnership aims to nurture the next generation of sports performers and scholars.

It will see the university support the Connacht Rugby Academy and the Connacht Rugby Age Grade Representative teams.

A key aspect of the alliance is the offer of structured third level education to elite players.

NUIG President Dr Jim Browne says that the partnership will allow professional players with the opportunity to combine third level study with a professional rugby career.

CEO of Connacht Rugby, Tom Sears says the partnership will enable Connacht Rugby to further enhance its holistic approach to elite player development.
