An international student who is studying at NUI Galway has been banned from campus following a complaint by a lecturer, the Galway City Tribune has learned.

The university has refused to comment on the case involving a science student from France, who is in conflict with one of her lecturers.

Student and trade union sources at NUIG say that the mature student, in her 40s, sent an email to the lecturer, which led to the involvement of the university’s disciplinary committee.

It is understood that the lecturer perceived the contents of the email to be threatening and referred it to the disciplinary committee.

It is believed the disciplinary committee, following a hearing, has forbidden the student to set foot on the campus, however, the university has declined to confirm or deny this.

The student is understood to be considering an appeal.
