NUI GALWAY EXAM RESOURCES STRONGLY CRITICISED
Date Published: 03-Dec-2007
NUI Galway’s lack of resources has been strongly criticised as 1,000 students are forced to sit their Christmas exams at Galway Racecourse, on the opposite side of the city to the university campus
For the first time ever students have to travel to an NUIG exam centre set up on the top floor of the new Grandstand at Ballybrit.
Students have had to sit their exams off-campus for the past two decades due to cramped conditions and a lack of a dedicated exam hall at NUIG, but the venues are usually close to the campus
One of these venues – Leisureland – wasn’t available this year due to Galway on Ice using the premises.
The university has laid on buses from the campus to the racecourse costing 3 euro return, but many students are opting to navigate the city’s gridlock themselves by car.
The university hasn’t commented on the problem but Student Union Vice President and Education Officer Ciara Staunton says it’s not ideal for already stressed out students
