NTA SEEKS SPONSORSHIP FOR GALWAY PUBLIC BIKE SCHEME

Expressions of interest are being sought for the sponsorship of a public bike scheme which would see 250 shared bicycles made available in the city.

The National Transport Authority envisages that the prospective sponsor would obtain naming rights to the scheme and ownership of advertising space at around 20 docking stations in the city.

One point seven million euro has been earmarked for the project by the Department of Transport Tourism and Sport but sponsorship is needed to make up the operational cost of the project.

The scheme is based on that which is already operational in Dublin since 2009 and follows a feasibility study carried out last year.

Galway West Fine Gael TD Brian Walsh says he’s confident sponsors will be found and if so, the scheme could be operational as early as the middle of next year.
