The National Roads Authority has raised concerns about plans for a new post-primary school building in Claregalway.

The Minister for Education applied for permission for the 350-pupil school at Lakeview, Claregalway.

The NRA says, that in its current form, the school would adversely affect the operation and safety of the national road network.

It says that granting planning permission would be premature pending the County Council undertaking a review of speed limits on the N18 at that location.

It also wants a continuous footpath from the town to the site of the school, pedestrian crossing facilities and traffic calming measures.

County planners are expected to make a decision about the plans for the secondary school in Claregalway later this month.
