Novel method of helping parents – and children

A new novel, described by its author, Kristin Ruane, as “Peter Pan meets Mary Poppins . . . .with the science”, is aimed at helping parents of young children when life doesn’t go to plan.

“It’s a book is for parents, teachers, behaviour analysts, psychologists and pretty much anyone who knows children,” says Kirstin of Finding Victoria.

The New Jersey woman who has lived in Galway for the past eight years, has two decades’ experience working in the area of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), which is the study of human behaviour and how we learn – and how our environment affects all of this.

Kristen has written fiction before but up to now, it’s been fairytales.

“It never occurred to me to write about what I did for a living, until one day, I was talking with a parent I was working with, and she told me ‘you need to write about this’,” she recalls.

It was then she realised she could combine her passion for fairytales with her love of psychology, teaching and behaviour analysis.

The result is Finding Victoria, which follows the adventures of lovely, but stubborn child who meets her match when her mother calls on the services of behaviour analyst, Kay.
