Senator David Norris says he will still seek the support of local authorities such as Galway City Council to secure a presidential nomination.

This is despite having more than half the support he needs from Oireachtas members to secure a place on the ballot paper.

Earlier this month, Galway City Council voted not to allow Senator Norris make a presentation at the September meeting of the Council.

Fine Gael Mayor, Hildegarde Naughton had the controversial casting vote, but has since sought to have the decision reversed, claiming she made a ‘mistake’.

Today Senator Norris has revealed that he has 13 of the 20 nominations needed from within the Oireachtas.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm News, Senator Norris says he will still continue the route of seeking local authority support as well.
