There is no threat to psychiatric services at St Brigids Hospital in Ballinasloe.

That’s according to Minister of State and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon who says that 22 acute beds will be retained there as part of the service plan.

It follows speculation among unions and staff that services were to be wound down in 26 weeks and possibly transferred to Roscommon.

Minister Cannon says the HSE has also committed to spending over 2 million euro on refurbishing the hospital.
