The HSE says there are no plans to transfer clients with an intellectual disability who are currently living in the community to St. Luke’s ward at St. Brigid’s Hospital Ballinasloe.

It follows reports today that the Inspector for Mental Health Services is criticising such a transfer from community back into a ward at the East Galway pyschiatric institution, which it says dates back to the 1930s.

The HSE West says no such transfer is planned and stresses that St.Luke’s ward will be the accommodation for ‘Psychiatry of Later Life’ once the capital project underway at St. Brigid’s Hospital has been completed later this year.
