No plan to close social welfare offices in Ballinasloe
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Department of Social Protection says there is no proposal to close the social welfare and employment services offices in Ballinasloe from next September.
The clarification follows concerns raised by Galway East Fianna Fáil T.D, Micheál Kitt who said proposals are being considered to merge services with a new centralised office planned for Loughrea.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the Department of Social Protection says it’s examining all services in the context of the Pathways to Work commitments and the development of Intreo services across the whole country.
It adds this may result in some re-balancing of resources across its range of activities – payments processing, control and activation and the relocation of some staff to main centres, primarily Intreo offices where a full range of services will be available in one location.
