CONNACHT captain Jack Carty believes they have a great chance of reaching the URC final if they can just get a better scoring return on their chances in South Africa on Saturday against the Stormers.

Carty’s five penalties were enough for them to shock Ulster at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast but they should have cantered home after missing a host of try chances.

“We were massively, massively wasteful and I think that’s what the excitement part is. That’s where the growth is.

“If we take those opportunities next week, we will be closer to a final. I don’t think many people gave us a chance but we were confident coming up,” said Carty.

Their back row of Shamus Hurley-Langton, Conor Oliver and Cian Prendergast laid the foundation for a deserved win with an awesome display at the breakdown which nullified Ulster’s treat.

Man of the match Hurley-Langton said they knew they will have a right crack off the Stormers in a bid to nail a spot in the URC final for the first time since they won it in 2016.

Andy Friend’s men were full value for their win and would have eased to an easy victory had they taken their chances, but Kiwi Hurley-Langton said they now head to South Africa with a pep in their step.

“I love South Africa, it is a great country and I’m looking to getting down there and dig into it. In the last few weeks we knew we had it in us. Ulster are a class outfit but we knew if we played our best game then we could get a result,” said the 23-year old.
