No fake euro note in Galway yet but warning to be vigilant
Galway Bay fm newsroom – At a time when fake twenty euro notes are said to be in circulation in other areas of the country Galway Gardai say that retailers in the city and county should also be vigilant.
When contached by Galway Bay fm a spokesperson for the Gardai at Mill Street says that while no incidents of forged notes have been reported here to date it is still vital that retailers be vigilant.
The Galway Garda spokesperson said, that while these forgeries are of a higher quality than others in the past, the standard of paper used is still poor and if in doubt, initially examine the paper quality by rubbing the note between the thumb and forefinger.
According to the Galway Garda spokesperson there is every possiblity that crimiminals could try and pass off the counterfeit notes in Galway as the country is so small it is a likely large area of population for them to target.
The high quality forgeries have been making their way onto the market in six counties so far.
Retailers in Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Limerick, Kildare and Tipperary have already been warned to be vigilant.
