NO E-COLI POISONING CASES REPORTED FROM CITY WATER CONTAMINATION
Date Published: 14-Sep-2007
There have been no cases of e-coli poisoning reported as a result of the latest water contamination in Knocknacarra.
The HSE says they haven’t been notified of any e-coli cases at University Hospital Galway.
The HSE yesterday pressed the City council to issue a boil water notice on foot of high e-coli levels found in the Knocknacarra area north and south of the Western Distributor road.
City council Director of Services Ciaran Hayes says the source of the contamination is excavation works on the water pipes in the area but denied that sewerage has leaked into the water supply.
However, Dr McKeown says contamination of a water supply by e-coli is usually caused by contact with either human or animal waste.
