No asylum at Corrib Heights

The owners of the Corrib Heights Hotel on the Dublin Road, which closed its doors and ceased trading last month, have ruled out the possibility that the property might be turned into a residential unit for asylum seekers.

Instead, it is hoped the hotel will be used for the purpose of education with a possible tie with GMIT in the future.
Edward Holdings, which owns the hotel, has confirmed that it will not be used as a unit for asylum seekers as it is not in the long term plan for the hotel and it would not be in the best interests of asylum seekers.

Said David Barrett, Commercial Director of the G Hotel Group: “The former Corrib Great Southern will not be redeveloped as a residential centre for asylum seekers, despite recent media reporting.”

The company was in talks with the Department of Justice until Wednesday of this week about the possible conversion of the building into a unit for asylum seekers. According to Mr Barrett…..
