A new comedy club which is exclusively by and for teenagers kicks-off at Cuba, Eyre Square, on Sunday evening.

The Comedy Factory, part of Backstage Academy of Performing Arts, results from work done in comedy workshops in Galway over the past year.

Teens aged between 14 and 18 will perform their own stand-up routines as well as being part of a team for a ‘Comedy Improv.’ show. And . . . no adults are allowed!

While the stand-up part of the show has been rehearsed, there is no knowing where the Comedy Improv section will go because the subject matter will be dictated by the audience of teenagers. Only 13 to 18 year olds will be admitted.

The first Teen Comedy show takes place from 6.30 to 8pm at Cuba on Sunday. Doors open at 6.15pm. Tickets cost €9 in advance from Zhivago Records, Shop Street.

In case the adult comedy fans among you are feeling left out, the regular Comedy Club at Cuba features this year’s PerrierAward (now known as the If.comedy award) winner Brendon Burns (8.30 p.m.) later on Sunday. Burns’ controversial socio-political comedy proved to be a huge hit at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last month. The Australian has toured the world as a stand-up comedian for 16 years and once got banned from the BBC for ‘snogging’ a goat live on television.
