NINE MONTHS IN JAIL FOR CITY MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

A 20-year-old unemployed city man has been given a nine month prison sentence following an assault in the city last August.

Sonny Barrett of 25C Ballybrit Court was also charged with resisting arrest in the city in a seperate incident.

Inspector Ernie White told the court that on August 15th 2009, Barrett was caught on CCTV assaulting a man in Eyre Square.

Just over a fortnight before the incident in Eyre Square, Barrett arrested resist in Ballybrit after being caught throwing stones at traffic in the area.

Judge Mary Fahy sentenced Barrett to eight months in prison for the assault and another month to run consecutively for resisting arrest in Ballybrit.
