Nine hospitalised following crash near Leenane
Nine people have been hospitalised – including one with serious injuries – following a crash on the Clifden road near Leenane this evening.
Two vehicles collided at around 5.15pm around 3km on the Clifden side of Leenane.
Emergency services – the Gardaí, Fire Brigade, Ambulance and Coast Guard – were at the scene for several hours and eight were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. A ninth person, male, received serious injuries and his condition is unknown at this time.
It’s understood the occupants of one vehicle were aged in their 20s and the other vehicle were overseas tourists aged in their 40s.
The scene is currently preserved for an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and will remain closed overnight, with local diversions in place.
