CITY TRIBUNE
Night of song in Galway to remember Dolores
The late Dolores O’Riordan will be remembered at a special tribute event in Róisín Dubh in Galway this Sunday night, February 25.
The Cranberries singer’s untimely death on January 15 was met with an overwhelming outpouring of grief and shock from her fans all around the world.
This celebration of Dolores’ life and music – Dreaming Her Dreams: A Night in Memory of Dolores O’Riordan – will feature live performances of Dolores’ songs from some of Galway’s finest musicians such as Tracy Bruen, Anna Mullarkey, Barbara Vulso, Steven Sharpe, Orlagh De Bhaldraithe, The Flying Head ft. Therese McManus, Niceol Blue, Paul McManus and Coili Mullins.
The live performances will include some of The Cranberries’ best-loved songs including Zombie, Linger, Dreaming my Dreams, When You’re Gone and many more. The live set will be followed by a sing-along where everyone is invited to join in. It promises to be a touching and beautiful tribute to one of the greatest songwriters of our time.
Organiser of the event, Elena Toniato, commented: “Dolores has left a rich and wonderful legacy of songs and we would like to honour her, and her exceptional talent, with this tribute.
“Galway has a wealth of skilled musicians, many of whom were inspired by Dolores, and I am deeply grateful to them all for being a part of this. I have been a fan of The Cranberries ever since they shot to fame in the early 90s and I invite all her fans to join us for what will be a very special night in Dolores’ memory.”
Dolores’ unique, haunting and powerful voice touched many hearts. Her beautiful songs marked moments in so many people’s lives and inspired many young musicians in Ireland and abroad.
Tickets €8/€6 are available on the door and all monies raised on the night will go to the charity, Chernobyl Children International, which Dolores had supported right up until her death.
In 2002 Dolores wrote and recorded Time is Ticking Out in aid of Chernobyl Children International. It was her hope to both raise funds and awareness for the charity. She dedicated the song to the memory of all of those affected by the 1986 disaster.
