Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Nigerian and African community in Galway is in shock following an accident in the city yesterday after which a three year old boy died.

Three-year-old Solomon Soremekun died after he became trapped in the lift shaft at the social welfare office at Hynes Building on Augustine Street yesterday.

It’s understood he was with his mother and at least two other siblings at the building at around 3p.m when the incident occurred.

The family had moved from Dublin to Galway just after Christmas.

The scene remains sealed off this morning to facilitate an examination by Health and Safety Authority officers.

Two separate investigations have been launched by the Gardaí and the HSA – into how the boy could have gained access to the lift shaft.

Pastor with the Faith Christian Fellowship church in Galway Larry Ovie told Galway Talks that the family is in everyone’s prayers.
