Knute Skinner, Derek Coyle and Sinéad Mongan feature in the August Over the Edge: Open Reading, which will be held next Thursday, August 27, from 6.30-8pm, on Zoom. It’s the first reading following the Summer break and, as always, will be followed by the Open-Mic session at which new readers are especially welcome.

Knute Skinner is originally from Missouri but has lived in County Clare for many years. His collected poems, Fifty Years: Poems 1957-2007, was published by Salmon Poetry.  His memoir, Help Me to a Getaway, appeared from Salmon in 2010.  His most recent collection, also from Salmon, is An Upside-Down World. Knute recently celebrated his 91st birthday.

Sinéad Mongan, who lives in Galway, has participated in poetry workshops since 2018. She won the Galway University Hospital Arts Trust Poems for Patience competition in 2019 and this year came third in the Cathal Buí Poetry competition. Her work has been published by Skylight 47, the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, Pendemic.ie and has featured in TACTIC’s Archives of Shame exhibition, held in Cork last year.

Derek Coyle is a founding member of the Carlow Writers’ Co-Operative. His first collection, Reading John Ashbery in Costa Coffee Carlow was published in a dual-language edition in Tranas Sweden and Carlow Ireland in April 2019 and was shortlisted for the 2020 Shine/Strong Award for best first collection by an Irish poet.

He’s had poems published in The Irish Times, Irish Pages, The Texas Literary Review, The Honest Ulsterman, Orbis, and Skylight 47 among others. Derek has been shortlisted for the Patrick Kavanagh Award and was a chosen poet for the Poetry Ireland Introductions Series. His poems were set to music by leading Irish composer Gráinne Mulvey for The Carlow Song Cycle.
