New rules at junction working well during trial

A report will be presented to city councillors next month on the trial ban on right-hand turns at the Kingston Road/Taylor’s Hill junction.

The three-month trial was due to end at the beginning of February, but has been extended until after the Easter holidays.

A spokesperson for Galway City Council said the trial is continuing to allow for traffic data to be collected.

“Traffic counts of ‘before’ and ‘after’ have to be gathered and examined. We have the ‘before’, but due to bad weather and other issues such as the traffic lights being out at Newcastle junction, the ‘after’ count has not taken place.

“The only time the relevant data can be collected is when schools are open, so we are waiting until after the Easter holidays.

“A report will be brought before councillors in April or May,” he said.
